Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House and Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice are set in similar time period and feature protagonists who go through different struggles, but whose themes have some overlap. Honesty is a theme that is played out in both stories resulting in opposite consequences for the protagonists. The power of honesty can either hurt or enhance lives. The truth means ruination in Nora and Torvald’s marriage in A Doll’s House whereas the truth brings Elizabeth and Darcy together in Pride and Prejudice. Supreme Court’s decision in Gonzales v. Raich kept state medical marijuana laws in tact but allowed for continued federal attacks on patients, even in states with medical marijuana laws. In order for seriously ill people to use medical marijuana to relieve their chronic symptoms, the legalization of medical marijuana must occur through Congress. This would also result in a decrease in overall adolescent marijuana usage, and it would provide another viable, less detrimental source of pain relief for patients. Violence in the Workplace Essay Workplace violence includes threatening behaviors, verbal abuse and physical assault. In any given week about 20 workers are murdered in the United States (Bruce Nowlin, 2011). This can include the harming of an employee or client/customer of an organization by another employee, client/customer, or member of the general public. Many internal and external factors, including socioeconomic conditions, problems related to drug and alcohol abuse, layoffs, dictatorial workplaces, stress over job security, and domestic problems, are leading causes of workplace violence. Organizations have to deal with human productivity and economic costs from incidents of workplace violence. For example, employees and customers or clients can be seriously injured or killed. In addition, a loss of productivity generally occurs during the incident because the business may be closed or on reduced hours pending investigation and employees may fear that another incident could occur within days or months. Some employees also may quit as a result of fear of another incident or dissatisfaction with the employer for failing to prevent or properly respond to the incident. Physical injuries or emotional difficulties that result from the violent incident may cause increases in workers compensation claims. Organizations with policies on workplace violence are more likely to implement practices that can reduce the potential for workplace violence. The managers in these organizations indicated that counseling for potentially violent employees, investigating unfairness in the workplace, disciplining/arresting people responsible for violent acts, mandating fair treatment for terminated employees, using mediation to resolve disputes that have the potential for becoming violent, and intervening in problems between employees were part of their workplace violence policies. These elements are further evidence that organizations that initiate formal policies for workplace violence are more likely to consider ways to be proactive, rather than reactive. Organizations must take steps to ensure that employees feel safe and secure. While organizations are unable to anticipate all situations, basic preventive measures can deter some violence in the workplace. While every employee with the potential for workplace violence cannot be pre-identified at the point of hire, organizations should have a variety of pre-employment assessments in place to ensure selection of individuals whose credentials, work experience, personality, and life experiences appropriately correspond to organizational needs and values. At the pre-incident strategy stage, the organization should create a zero tolerance policy. The organization should document all forms of aggression that have occurred against people and property associated with their organization. Employees should be encouraged to report incidents of which they are aware. Furthermore, for a second strategy, pre-employment screening should include psychological testing, background checks to validate an applicants resume, reference checking, employment history verification, or even integrity interviewing. Training should include interpersonal communication, conflict resolution techniques and hostage survival skills to ensure that employees are prepared for any violence that should occur in the workplace.

Their parents, Friedrich Braun and Franziska Kronberger, were just an average Catholic, middle class family. Friedrich and Franziska had relationship issues, but worked them out for the sake of their family and financial reasons. Finances were very limited during that time. During WWI Gretl, Ilse, and Eva had no idea how their lives would be changed in just a short amount of time, especially Eva. Ilse was the first born child of Friedrich and Franziska. She was born in 1909. Unlike her other sisters, she wanted no involvement in the war or politics. She stayed very distant from the issues facing Germany. Ilse left her home when she was only twenty years old and began to work as an assistant for a doctor. Ilse and Dr. Marx shared a special relationship. They not only shared a work relationship, but also a passionate relationship outside of work. Their relationship never grew to be more because of his emigration to the United States in 1938. Ilse married twice during her life. She was wed to lawyers in both of her marriages. Ilse was diagnosed with cancer later in her life and died in 1979. She is buried in Munich. Eva was the second born child. She was born on February 6th, 1912 in Munich, Germany. She is the most well-known of the three sisters. She was an all-around girl growing up. She was competitive with her grades and athletics while in school. When Eva was finished with school, she began working as a photography assistant for Henirich Hoffmann in Munich. This is where she met Hitler for the first time. Eva Braun was not just an average German woma... ...egarding that awful night. This is a prime example of how blood is thicker than water. Adolf wasn’t there that night to take care of her. He was too busy planning and scheming ideas of how he could wipeout an entire, powerless race. A New Kind of Dreaming by Jamie Riley Essay

Jamie Riley changing for the better throughout the novel ‘A New Kind of Dreaming’ is thanks to many of the events throughout his stay in Port Barren. The courts sending Jamie to Port Barren on Isolated Care, I find, is the best thing they have done for him. Even though he was targeted, threatened and set-up, he managed to endure it, and come out the other side a better person. He can only owe it to Port Barren and its people for the turnaround in his life. Jamie’s poor attitude and behaviour issues are no fault of his own. They are at the fault of both his father and late mother. His mother had passed when Jamie was quite young, and his father was of no use either, ‘†¦usually too pissed to worry about anything, particularly the boys.’ Having no parents meant that both Jamie and Eddie could do whatever they like and not have to reap the consequences. Jamie and Eddie both took full advantage of this situation, and it hasn’t done either of them any favours. Eddie is now behind bars, still with no concept of the severity of the situation. He just continues to think that it doesn’t matter, that he will get out and go and find Jamie in Port Barren and they’ll live happily ever after. This attitude of Eddie’s plays a major part in influencing Jamie, especially because Eddie is the only person Jamie can look up to, and he isn’t what I would call a ‘good influence’. So as Jamie carries this attitude into Port Barren, he cops a bit of shit for it. As soon as he arrives in Port Barren, he stops dead still in the road with shock, as if ‘something bad, something evil had reached out and touched him as he crossed the road’. After this little incident, mid-way thru a conversation between Jamie and his social worker Lorraine, a comment she makes, startles Jamie a little bit ‘This is it, Jamie. This is your last chance.’ As much as he had heard it all before, he knew that for some reason, this actually was his last chance. Being Jamie’s last chance, before Jail, he’d been putting in the hard yards. He was attending school, and had become quite close with Cameron, who was becoming more and more like a brother as the story unfolded, and had settled at Archie’s. Often, of an evening, Jamie would go for long walks, to think,  and occasionally to release some ‘steam’. However, on the way back from one of his regular walks, after seeing Butcher burning the school down, Butcher followed him home, and just before Archie’s stopped Jamie; blamed him for burning the school down. Jamie tried to defend himself, but Butcher just smacked him over the back of the head with his Nightstick and threw him in the back of the police truck. After a torturous ride in the back of the police truck, Butcher deserted Jamie at an old Mining Station, Flaherety’s Curse, handcuffed to a retaining pole. Cameron managed to decipher where Jamie was, however, another visit from Butcher, he smashed Cameron’s Father’s car into the Mining Hut, and left. Which meant if the boys even wanted a chance of survival, they’d have to hike it back to town, a very strenuous journey, especially after all of Jamie’s experiences. The boys found the previous person Butcher had left out there, who was unlucky enough to have died out there, and they bought her skeleton back too. After their near-death experiences on their travels, and being struck with pure luck, of finding a watering hole and two recreational hikers, who gave them a ride back to Port Barren, they made it back. Butcher, furious with the news, made a beeline for Archie’s house, in search of Jamie, and after a call from Cameron, he made for his sacred place, the boat. Butcher, eventually finding Jamie, set the boat alight, and upon Jamie’s escape from the inferno, held him at gunpoint. Thanks to some ingenuity from Robb, Cameron and Archie, they managed to make it before it was too late, and Robb shot Butcher in the shoulder, saving Jamie’s life. They made contact with the Karratha Police, and had Butcher arrested and charged. Once all the fuss was settled, Jamie returned to Archie, and in reference to a story Archie had told Jamie, he asked if he was a wanderer or a lost one, and Archie’s reply was ‘Neither mate, you’re a local’. This was a massive milestone for Jamie. Clearly Jamie realises that he needs to ‘pull his finger out’ or he has had it. This is shown right throughout the novel. Jamie does well at school, offers to give Archie around the house occasionally and he is off the streets. He feels different, usually when he was sent to Foster Homes, they’d all smother him, and nurture him, and treat him like an idiot, however, Archie’s was different, he had the freedom to do whatever he liked, but most of the time, he’d be controlled; he’d stay at home, and sleep or  study. Also, throughout his stay in Port Barren, he felt as if he had a Guardian Angel, constantly watching over him and speaking to him. In the words of the narrator, ‘The girl’s presence filled Jamie. She’d been watching him, helping him, calling him, ever since the moment he’d stepped off the bus and into Port Barren. I find that Jamie is also very grateful for the experiences throughout his stay in Port Barren, as good or as bad as they were, because if it wasn’t for them, he’d still be the same juvenile delinquent he’d come as, and for all we know, could’ve ended up in Prison with Eddie.

The NICHD started a longitudinal study in 1991 to study many aspects of child development. Similarly the NICHD study found that children who were in day care for more than 30 hours a week were 3 times more likely to show behaviour problems when they went to school. According to the theory of constructivism the effect of anarchy on the state is proportionate to the states perception of anarchy, identity and interest. If in the state of Anarchy state A perceives the rise of power of state B as threat to its security, then a security dilemma is created and states apply to the self-help principle. But, if state A and state B view their security in the form of cooperation and collaboration, then a security dilemma is not formed, thus not establishing logical grounds for self-help principle to develop. The criminal justice system has gone through many changes throughout the past decades. Throughout its journey the criminal justice system has been reformed numerous times striving to perfect its process. Because of the numerous changes to the format it has been expanded and is unrecognizable from the days when crude management and organizational theories were first developed and conceived. In this document I will compare the use of privatization, e-corporation, and militarization of criminal justice organizations with current organizational structures, historical and traditional organizational behavior theories, and explain how theories of motivation affect criminal justice organizations. What is an organization and its purpose? The purpose of an organization is to combine its resources, and maximize its manpower in the best possible fashion so that organization can get the desired results with maximum efficiency. After years of trial and error the criminal justice system has adapted its thought process and embraced commercialization and privatization of its core. Throughout the years the criminal justice system has heard the voice of the community and the peoples cry for justice due to the lack of personal responsibility taken by criminal justice professionals from inefficient community policing to corrupt law enforcement. Because the government has heard the overwhelming concern for its criminal justice departments they have allowed privatized companies to spearhead the proceedings. There has been an influx and privately owned law enforcement companies and agencies. Private law enforcement professionals are estimated to outnumber public servants 3 to 1. Research has shown that privatization of criminal justice is an effective way of reducing cost and recidivism. Government agencies are able to contract privatized correctional facility, policing agencies and other forms of  criminal justice. The government’s main reason for contracting with privatized organization is to efficiently manage their resources and maximize their efficiency. This consists of our government contracting with private police organizations who are held responsible for CSI work, parking enforcement, communications, accounting, maintenance, investigation background checks and etc. a bigger aspect of what our government privatizing law enforcement today is in our correctional facilities. Within these facilities every aspect of a correctional facility is controlled by the private company who holds the government contracts. Every aspect of the facility is outsourced to these private companies from maintenance to vocational training. Militarization is the use of force for the effective ruling of a population. Not only is a force used to resolve policy issues, but also to control the people (Simpson, 2009). Using this definition the police may gain a status of power. This power is perceived by society at a cost because this method of power defies humane rights, democracy, and law mechanisms. If the government was to utilize the militarization control society would have a hard time accepting such violations of their civil right. The use of militarization in the criminal justice field would have a negative effect. Militarization would undermine women’s equality, the effectiveness of civil policing and the loss of protection for communities. What are E-Corporation, they are institutions that are managed and are responsible to the stakeholders they are privately or publicly owned and usually dealing technologies. How does E-company translate into the criminal justice world? E-corporations in the criminal justice world usually are comprised of computer technologies that insist on utilizing extremely skilled technicians to maintain its optimal performance. These companies can be compared to companies like Kerpersky who specialize in antivirus software. Like Kerpersky these E-corporation specialized in securing sensitive information privy only to law enforcement. Without the corporations law enforcement agencies would not be able to protect sensitive information from novice hackers. This would compromise any sensitive information collected by law enforcement agencies creating strain on the  entire criminal justice system. Criminal motivational theories include such theories as self-determination theory, in this theory individuals receive more of an intrinsic value by accomplishing the mission. Getting your man or criminal can be a great feeling of accomplishment and very self-motivated. As far as extrinsic alley you I believe the majority of the criminal justice professions have great retirement plans and an individual can work hard towards achieving that goal. Another theory is the goal setting theory this theory applies to the criminal justice field by motivating the individuals to be part of a team and to accomplish the mission they are given regardless on the difficulty of the task I myself find meaningless task and complacent work to be daunting I find myself being bored out of my mind when I am challenged my day goes by so much quicker and at the end of the day I feel more productive as an officer. The final theory I’d like to discuss the two factors theory. In the criminal justice field employees must feel like they have the opportunity to advance their positions within the department or facility otherwise they become unmotivated and jaded. Allowing the chance for advancement within the fields you the employee a sense of satisfaction in achieving higher position. Also ensuring that your employee has job security is a great motivator for individuals to continue excelling at their positions. In conclusion, privatization of criminal justice is an efficient means in reducing recidivism and is cost-efficient it involves rewarding contracts to private companies for policing, incarceration, and other aspects of criminal justice.
